A sofa bed needs to work twice: as seating during the day and as a sleeping space when opened. Start with the room layout, then compare the mechanism, sleeping surface and total purchase cost.

01 · Adjustable-back futon

A futon format with an adjustable backrest and raisable arms. Compare its sleeping surface with the space you actually need.
- The manufacturer describes a pinewood and MDF frame with mild-steel legs.
- Listed overall dimensions: 178 × 84 × 80 cm (width × depth × height). These are not a verified flat sleeping-surface measurement.
Before you shortlist: Ask for fully opened dimensions, sleeping-surface dimensions and current availability. The page showed sold out when checked.

02 · Pull-out daybed with drawers
IKEA HEMNES
A daybed that combines a sofa position, single-bed position, expanded double bed and three drawers. Plan for both the pulled-out base and drawer access.
- IKEA specifies two 80 × 200 cm mattresses, stacked in single-bed mode and placed alongside each other in double-bed mode.
- Mattresses and bedlinen are sold separately; the slatted base is included.
- Listed frame size is 209 × 91 × 83 cm. The expanded bed surface is 160 × 200 cm.
Before you shortlist: Compare the complete cost including both mattresses, delivery and assembly. IKEA says the pulled-out base should not be used as two separate single beds.

03 · Click-clack sofa, lounger and bed

- The current Ash Grey model page describes a solid-wood frame and polyester upholstery.
- The manufacturer describes a click-clack mechanism; precise open and closed measurements still need confirmation for the selected variant.

- The reviewed manufacturer listing identifies Ikili as a two-seater teak sofa bed.
- The selected listing names teak and cotton rope. Confirm the fabric, timber finish and included components for your order.

Mark both footprints.
Use the manufacturer’s closed and open dimensions to mark the floor. Check doors, drawers, curtains and the route to the rest of the room.
02 · Daily use
Try the actual movement.
Check the effort needed to convert it, the sitting height, the usable sleeping surface and where loose cushions or bedding will go.
03 · Delivery
Check the route in.
Compare package dimensions with your lift, stairs and doorway. Ask about assembly, delivery charges, warranty and returns before paying.
Before choosing a sofa bed.
Does “three-seater” tell me the bed size?
No. Seating capacity and sleeping dimensions describe different uses. Ask for the usable sleeping surface and the fully opened furniture footprint for the exact model.
Can I use one every night?
Check the manufacturer’s intended use and try the support and conversion effort yourself. A product photograph cannot establish whether the sleeping surface suits your daily routine.
Should I choose a model with storage?
Decide what you will store, then check drawer access in both positions. Include the space needed to open storage in your room plan.
Why are there no fixed prices or star rankings here?
Prices depend on the selected variant and current offer. We have not independently tested these five products, so this guide compares their formats and documented details rather than inventing scores.
