Plan the controls before choosing the plateA conceptual six-position wall plate groups two light controls, one fan control and three blank positions. A separate room brief lists lighting, fan and spare capacity. Original planning illustration, not a product or wiring diagram. Actual module sizes and compatible combinations vary by system.

Separate the look from the function.

Modular format

Compatible switches, sockets and other functions fit into a selected plate system. Confirm the series and mounting parts together.

Rocker or touch surface

Try the action, feedback and legibility in person. Consider how every household member will find and use the control.

Switch, dimmer or fan control

These perform different jobs. Match the exact control to the light, driver, fan or other intended load.

Connected features

App control, voice commands and scenes depend on the chosen system. A modular plate or touch surface alone does not make a switch smart.

Make a room-by-room control brief.

Mark furniture, appliance positions and the way people enter and use each room. Give the brief to your designer and electrician before finalizing board locations.

Living and dining

List general, task and accent lighting separately. Include fans, television equipment and the sockets needed around the actual furniture layout.

Bedrooms

Consider entry and bedside control, reading lights and charging. Discuss how shared lights should operate from more than one position.

Kitchen and utility

List each appliance and where it will sit. Have the electrician specify suitable supplies, controls and accessible isolation for the actual equipment.

Bathrooms and outdoor areas

Have the project professional confirm suitable equipment and locations for moisture and exposure. Do not select these points from appearance alone.

This is a purchase-planning guide. A qualified electrician should confirm circuit design, load suitability, wiring, protection and installation for the selected products.

Ten manufacturers to explore.

These references help you find current ranges and ask better questions. They are not a price ranking or evidence that Houme India has tested every model. Exact specifications, availability and support need confirmation for your selection.

Ask what happens beyond the demo.

Fit and wiring

Does it replace the panel or sit behind the existing board? Ask about neutral requirements, available box space, ventilation and approved load types.

Connection and control

Does it need Wi-Fi, a hub or another network? Confirm compatible apps, voice platforms and what works locally when the internet is unavailable.

Handover and support

Confirm account ownership, household access, reset instructions, future replacement and local service. Ask about ongoing subscriptions or cloud dependencies.

Try normal wall operation as well as the app. Confirm how the system behaves after a power cut and whether guests can use the essential controls comfortably.

Make the plate part of the interior.

See a physical sample beside the wall finish, cabinetry and nearby hardware. Check color, sheen, edge profile and how easily labels or controls can be read in the room’s light.

Coordinate the layout with furniture and wall panels before installation. Agree on control labels and grouping so a neat plate is also easy to understand.

Compare the complete board, not one switch.

  1. Room schedule: location, function, quantity and product code for every point.
  2. Compatible parts: modules, support frames, cover plates, blanking pieces and mounting boxes.
  3. Electrical suitability: exact ratings and approved load types confirmed by the electrician.
  4. Control compatibility: agreed lamp or driver and dimmer combinations, and the correct fan control.
  5. Connected system: hubs, configuration, accounts, network needs and any ongoing costs.
  6. Installed scope: labor, testing, labeling, making good, warranty terms and replacement availability.

Use the same schedule for each quote. Keep the final product list and handover instructions with your home records.

Questions before you buy.

Are modular switches always smart switches?

No. Modular describes the way compatible functions fit into a plate system. A modular range can have conventional controls, connected controls, or both. Check the selected product.

Can I mix modules and plates from different brands?

Do not assume they fit. Specify a compatible series of modules, support frames, cover plates and mounting boxes, confirmed by the supplier.

Does a touch panel mean I can control it from my phone?

Touch describes the control surface. Phone or voice control depends on the selected panel, connectivity and supporting system. Ask what works without the internet or app.

Can any dimmer control my LED lights?

Confirm compatibility between the exact dimmer, lamps or drivers, and intended load. Have your lighting supplier and electrician agree the combination before purchase.

Can I use the same fan regulator for every fan?

Check the fan manufacturer’s control requirements. A conventional regulator may not suit the selected electronically controlled or BLDC fan.

Can I add smart controls to an existing board?

Some manufacturers offer retrofit devices; others replace the panel. Ask the installer to check box space, wiring, supported loads and access before choosing a model.

Which brand is best for my home?

Compare the complete room schedule, daily usability, finish, installation needs, support and total quote. The brand references here are research starting points, not a scored test or a universal recommendation.

Will smart switches automatically reduce my electricity bill?

Savings depend on what you control and how you use it. Scheduling or remote control alone does not establish a saving for your home.
